Dipendra Sunam is the assistant professor of piano at the University of Arkansas at Monticello. Prior to joining UAM, he served as a piano faculty at Southern Arkansas University from 2019 to 2021. His principal piano teachers include Dr. Peter Amstutz, Jura Margulis, Dr. Frank Scott, Robert Lewis, Mell Carey, and Dr. Gert Wegner. Dr. Sunam’s DMA dissertation; Pedagogical Thoughts on Album des Six: a piano suite by Les Six to represent French Nationalism, examined the “Cocteau-Satie vision of French musical nationalism” of the post-World War I and focused on the pedagogical and interpretative details of the piano work. Dr. Sunam is an active adjudicator in regional piano competitions. His most recent engagement was at the MMTA’s (Mississippi Music Teachers Association) Collegiate competition held at Delta State University, Cleveland MS. A passionate teacher, one of his pre-college students performed the piano at Carnegie Hall, NYC after winning an international music competition.
