Fall & Spring Semesters:
Mon. - Thurs. 8am - 9pm
Friday 8am - 6pm
Sat. & Sun. 3pm - 7pm
NOTE: Rec Areas will be CLOSED on all holidays & holiday weekends, some athletic events, between semesters & for scheduled classes, special events and activities.
Summer Hours are different and will be posted.
SPECIFIC AREAS AND POLICIES:
*UAM Executive Council may authorize requests from outside groups. These requests require at least four weeks notice and must include a description of the group’s purpose as well as the event.
- All Campus Recreation facilities are operated on an open recreation basis, unless reserved for specific groups or programs. Each participant uses the facilities at their own risk.
- Current validated UAM ID cards are required for use of all rec areas.
- All users are encouraged to consult a physician for a health exam prior to use of any rec area.
- Food, gum, beverages and tobacco products are prohibited. Water in sealable containers is permitted.
- UAM and its employees are not responsible for lost or stolen articles. Video surveillance is in place as a deterrent.
- For health and safety reasons, appropriate exercise attire is required in all work-out areas. Full length shirts with backs, athletic shorts or pants, and close-toed athletic shoes required. Exceptions to the close-toed shoe policy are allowed in the Game Room (flip flops and sandals allowed) and on the Sand Volleyball Courts. Athletic apparel is not required in the Game Room however participants should be fully clothed in appropriate attire.
- Be respectful of others with vocabulary content and volume. Abusive, taunting or vulgar language is prohibited.
- Conduct should not distract or disrupt the recreational pursuits of other participants. As such, when using personal music devices, the use of headphones or ear buds is required.
- All users must abide by a one hour time limit if there are others waiting to use the area.
- Individuals are financially responsible for damage to university facilities/equipment.
- Any accident must be reported to an Intramural & Recreation staff member.
- Report any problem areas to University Police (870-460-1000) or to IM/Rec Director (870-460-1046).
- The violation of any of these policies or the abuse/misuse of equipment may result in the suspension of privileges.
- Participants not following policies and procedures may be asked to leave the Recreation facility by supervisors or staff. If cooperation is not immediately obtained, University Police will be contacted and the participant may be referred for disciplinary action.
Men’s and Women’s Locker Rooms include: shower facilities; full and half-length rental lockers; dressing area with mirrors, electrical outlets, and a wall mounted hair dryer; and rest room area. Combination lockers are available for rental at a fee of $12.00/year or $6.00/half year. Pay fee at Cashier’s office, then bring the receipt to IM/REC office for locker assignment. Lockers assigned on a first-come basis. No personal locks. No food or other perishable items. A $5.00 penalty is assessed if locker is not cleared of possessions or renewed by locker expiration date. Locker Rooms are available for use during Open Rec hours.
The equipment listed below is available for use free of charge from the UC Rec ID Desk during all Open Rec hours. Individuals must submit their current validated ID to the attendant to check-out each piece of equipment. Each individual is responsible for returning the piece of equipment secured with their ID in good condition. Normal wear and tear of equipment with high use is expected however, individuals who damage equipment agree to be held financially accountable.
No IDs will be returned without the specific piece of equipment being returned or the completion of a Damaged/Missing Equipment form. A student may not bring another student’s ID to trade for his/her ID in order to keep using a particular piece of equipment, a basketball for example. The student whose ID was used to get the basketball must return the basketball in person. The person wishing to use that basketball must then present their own ID to check-out the ball or the piece of equipment in question.
Equipment Available for Check-Out in UC Rec Areas:
Fitness Room: popular 360 Kinect games & controllers and jump ropes. An exercise ball, push up stands and yoga mats are readily available in the Fitness Room, no need for check-out.
Game Room: popular Xbox 360 and Play Station 3 games & controllers, cue sticks & balls, air hockey and foosball game pieces.
Racquetball Courts/Wallyball Court: racquetball racquets & racquetballs, protective eye wear and wallyball net & wallyball ball.
UC Gym: basketballs, indoor volleyballs, ping pong paddles & balls
Equipment Available for Outdoor Check-Out: sand volleyballs, footballs, flying discs, horseshoes, soccer balls, softball bats and softballs, rubber throw down bases and, tennis racquets and tennis balls. Outdoor equipment may be checked-out for overnight and/or weekend use.
Bicycles for men, women and even a bicycle built for two are available through the Weevil Wheels of Wellness. Check-out a bicycle of your choice FREE for the day from the UC Rec ID Desk with submission of current UAM ID. Riders must read the Safe Bicycle Use Guidelines available at the UC Rec ID Desk and agree to all terms of the Weevil Wheels of Wellness bicycle check-out agreement. Bicycles are not equipped to be ridden at night.
- The Fitness Room is equipped with a ballet stretch bar, an exercise ball and an XBOX 360 Kinect on a large screen TV with plenty of room to stretch, dance and work out alone or with a small group of friends.
- A current list of Xbox 360 Kinect games available at the UC Rec ID Desk is posted in the room.
- Only soft rubber non-marking athletic shoes may be worn; socks only may be worn for yoga.
- Exercise balls, push up stands and yoga mats are readily available in the Fitness Room. These items must remain in the Fitness Room.
- Use of personal yoga/stretching mats is encouraged.
- Wipe off equipment when finished.
- Use equipment as designed: improper use of equipment may result in injury.
- Do not lean against the mirrors.
- TV volume must be kept at an appropriate level.
- Spray yoga mat with antibacterial spray provided when finished.
- Immediately report any defective, broken or worn parts that need repair or replacement to Intramural and Recreation staff.
- Suggestions for new equipment, etc. are always welcome by Intramural and Recreation staff.
- All General Policies for Campus Rec Facilities must be followed at all times.
- Must be 18 years of age or older to enter this room.
- Use is strictly limited to individuals actively lifting weights, no spectators or fans.
- No backpacks, gym bags, etc. allowed in this room.
- To ensure your safety, please see your physician before starting a weight training program.
- Clothing policy must be adhered. Remove all keys and other items from pockets before using a bench.
- Use equipment as designed: improper use of equipment and improper technique may result in injury.
- Safety collars must be used on all weight bars.
- Use a spotter.
- Do not attempt to lift beyond your capabilities.
- Do not drop or bang the free weights or dumbbells.
- Do not place weight plates or dumbbells on the benches or lean them against the walls.
- Plates and dumbbells must be replaced on appropriate racks after each use.
- Do not lean against the mirrors.
- Benches must remain in this room. Small dumbbells may be taken into the Fitness Room for use but must be immediately returned to their appropriate rack when finished.
- Do not monopolize several pieces of equipment while others are waiting.
- Allow others to “work in” with you.
- Water in sealable containers is the only beverage permitted.
- No yelling or loud grunting.
- Wipe off equipment when finished.
- Immediately report any defective, broken or worn parts that need repair or replacement to Intramural and Recreation staff.
- Suggestions for new equipment, etc. are always welcome by Intramural and Recreation staff.
- No spectators, if you are not actively using the weight equipment, you are welcome to use the games in the Game Room or to go upstairs and sit in the Green Room.
- All General Policies for Campus Rec Facilities must be followed at all times.
- The Game Room is equipped with an XBOX 360 and a PS3 on two large screen TVs; a full sized pool table, an air hockey table and a foosball table.
- All game equipment for this room is available for check-out from the UC Rec ID Desk.
- A current list of XBOX 360 and PS3 games available at the UC Rec ID Desk is posted in the room.
- Furniture and game tables are not to be moved.
- Game tables are not to be used as additional seating or for storage of backpacks, coats, purses, books, etc.
- Do not lean on or against the tables.
- One hour time limit on all games if there are others waiting to play.
- Appropriate attire must be worn.
- Encourage fair play.
- Immediately report any defective, broken or worn parts that need repair or replacement to Intramural and Recreation staff.
- Suggestions for new equipment, etc. are always welcome by Intramural and Recreation staff.
- All General Policies for Campus Rec Facilities must be followed at all times.
- Only soft rubber non-marking athletic shoes may be worn; no black soled running shoes, boots, high heels, etc. unless the floor covering is down.
- All shoes must be wiped on the mat prior to entrance into the gym.
- Backpacks, gym bags, etc. are not recommended to be brought into the gym. Those that are must remain in the bleachers. They are not allowed on the floor where they may create a safety hazard.
- No hanging on the basketball rims.
- No dunking competitions. Dunking that occurs during a game must not use excessive force.
- Balls are not to be thrown at the ceiling tiles, lights, walls, etc.
- Any persons not actively participating in a game or open rec activity must sit in the bleachers.
- Bleachers and benches are not to be moved without permission of IM/REC Director.
- When the divider curtain is lowered, access to the reserved side of the gym is restricted.
- Only non-marking/non-residue tape permitted on the floor or walls, as needed for specific events.
- All equipment must be clean and non-marking. Clean non-marring mats must be placed under any equipment that may mar the floor surface.
- The utmost care must be used when moving pieces of equipment in and out of the storage rooms and across the gym floor.
- All General Policies for Campus Rec Facilities must be followed at all times.
- Racquetball and wallyball equipment is available for check-out from the UC Rec ID Desk.
- Only soft rubber non-marking athletic shoes may be worn.
- Users are highly encouraged to wear protective goggles when playing racquetball.
- Do not hit racquets against the wall.
- Do not pull or hang on the wallyball net.
- Maximum number of persons on a court at a time: racquetball - 4; wallyball – 10, 5 per side.
- Wallyball use of RB Court B requires set-up of the wallyball net. A UC Rec Area Attendant will assist with the set-up of the net when an extra attendant is available. During times when only one attendant is available, users wishing to use the wallyball net will be expected to appropriately hang the net securely in the court without the physical assistance of the attendant.

The UAM campus offers a variety of opportunities for the university community to pursue recreational activities in the outdoor environment. These facilities are restricted to use by current UAM students, faculty & staff.
OUTDOOR ACTIVITY AREAS EQUIPMENT AVAILABLE FOR CHECK-OUT: The equipment listed below is available for use free of charge from the UC Rec ID Desk during all Open Rec hours. Equipment Available for Outdoor Check-Out: sand volleyballs, footballs, flying discs, soccer balls, softball bats and softballs, rubber throw down bases and, tennis racquets and tennis balls.
Outdoor equipment may be checked-out for overnight and/or weekend use.

Two sand courts located just northwest of the John F. Gibson University Center. No glass containers, golf clubs, or pets. Sand is not to be removed from the courts. Volleyballs are available for check-out. See OUTDOOR ACTIVITY AREAS EQUIPMENT AVAILABLE FOR CHECK-OUT.
A large multi-purpose open grassy area available for recreational play or Intramural practice during daylight hours; the UC IM Field is located directly west of the John F. Gibson University Center. No hitting of golf balls on the field. The field is not to be used for Open Rec when wet. The field is not available for Open Rec use during Intramural games or when reserved. For safety reasons, no other activity may take place anywhere on the field when being used for softball. Heavy animals are not allowed on the field at any time due to the underground sprinkler system. Vehicles of any type are prohibited, unless for university business. Sports equipment is available for check-out. See OUTDOOR ACTIVITY AREAS EQUIPMENT AVAILABLE FOR CHECK-OUT.
Three courts with lights are located on the south side of campus. Only tennis related equipment and activities are allowed. Courts are not to be used after 11:00pm. Tennis racquets and balls are available for check-out. See OUTDOOR ACTIVITY AREAS EQUIPMENT AVAILABLE FOR CHECK-OUT.
Located on the east side of campus, this area serves as a beautification point for the Campus. Its intended use is for the University Community and general public. The following activities are not permitted in or around Weevil Pond: Swimming/wading or other water sports/recreation; Boating/canoeing or use of any type of flotation device; Training or use of animals to retrieve objects or water fowl; Activities that create unsightly conditions or disturbing noise around the Pond. Fishing is allowed in Weevil Pond but must be conducted from the bank of the Pond. Consult the UAM Student Handbook for additional Weevil Pond policies.
A .4 mile brick & cement walking path around Weevil Pond. (2½ laps = 1 mile) Contact the Office of Advancement, Alumni & Development, for information on purchasing a memorial brick.
