Play Ball!: UAM To Host ‘Alumni Day at the Ballpark’
A new tradition is up to bat at the University of Arkansas at Monticello. UAM Alumni & Friends is partnering with UAM Athletics to host “Alumni Day at the Ballpark” on UAM’s Monticello campus this April. The event invites alumni and friends to the university to enjoy softball and baseball games, tour the campus and reconnect with the alumni community.
“Alumni Day at the Ballpark” will take place over two weekends. On Saturday, April 11, UAM Softball will compete against Southeastern Oklahoma State University at 12 p.m. at Alvy Early Softball Field at Ryburn Park. On Saturday, April 18, UAM Baseball will face East Central University in a doubleheader at 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. at Weevils Field at Union Bank Park.
“We are really excited to host an on-campus event for our alumni and friends. Whether you haven’t been back in years or you’re a regular face around campus, this is the perfect chance to engage with what makes the UAM community special,” said Esbeida Higginbotham, director of Alumni Affairs at UAM. “We want everyone to come out and enjoy campus while cheering on UAM Softball and UAM Baseball. Bring the whole family! We’ll have a cookout, games, face painting, a dunking booth and the opportunity to connect with old friends and meet other alumni who share a love for the university.”
The event will be free, except for a $5 cash-only parking fee.
Higginbotham also encourages alumni to tour the campus during their visit. “There are so many great things happening at UAM. We want alumni and their families to come for the ball games and also take the time to walk around the campus and see all of the progress. Steelman Field House has a beautiful new lobby. The Red Barn is no longer red; it’s an incredible new art studio for our students. Construction is almost complete on the amazing new Arkansas Forest Health Research Center. Stop by the Student Success Center to pick up some new swag at the UAM Bookstore and grab a milkshake at Chick-fil-A to enjoy on a bench at Weevil Pond. We want alumni to feel connected to their campus.”
