UAM-CTC Awarded Regional Workforce Grant for Industrial Technology Program
The University of Arkansas at Monticello College of Technology-Crossett (UAM-CTC) was awarded a $450,000 grant from the Arkansas Department of Higher Education’s (ADHE) Regional Workforce Grant Program in July. The award will benefit the UAM-CTC Industrial Technology program.
Linda Rushing, vice chancellor of UAM-CTC, stated, “We are excited about receiving this grant. It will assist us with meeting the workforce needs of our regional employers. The grant will allow us to purchase some state-of-the-art technology that will enhance and advance the training we can provide to our students in the Industrial Technology program. Ultimately, it is our employers who will benefit most by having access to quality, trained graduates to fill their critical vacancies in industrial maintenance. Having a qualified labor pool from which to draw helps ensure that our employers can contribute to economic development and stability in our communities. It is a win-win for all of us. We greatly appreciate the state leaders who have put the regional workforce grant opportunities into play as they purposefully put employers’ needs in the position to drive our education and training efforts and decisions.”
The Industrial Technology program is an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree program that has four exit points. Successful completers of the first semester earn a Certificate of Proficiency in Industrial Equipment Repair, one-year completers earn a Technical Certificate in Electromechanical Technology and two-year completers earn an Advanced Technical Certificate in Electromechanical Technology-Instrumentation and/or an AAS in Industrial Technology degree. Graduates of the program are prepared to enter high-demand, high-wage jobs as electromechanical technicians; electrical and instrumentation technicians; electrical and mechanical technicians; millwrights; and control and process technicians. The starting wage of graduates of this two-year program range from $20-$32 per hour depending on the job and company of their employment.
