UAM Nursing Students Host Health Fair With Local Business
Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) students in the School of Nursing at the University of Arkansas at Monticello recently collaborated with A+ School Apparel in Star City, AR, to bring a health fair to their employees. The fair focused on cardiovascular health and diabetes.
At the fair, the MSN students, who are already RNs, provided valuable services, including blood glucose checks and blood pressure analyses. They also educated A+ School Apparel employees on hypertension and stroke prevention and provided informative materials for employees to take home.
To further support health and wellness, employees entered a raffle for a free blood pressure cuff and a glucometer kit. The luau-themed health fair combined fun and learning, providing population health awareness in an inviting environment.
Dr. Brandy Haley, dean of the School of Nursing at UAM, stated, "We are honored to partner with A+ School Apparel to develop their first employee health fair and hope our participation informs their employees on ways to mitigate health risks. Part of our objective in these types of community service initiatives is to teach our MSN graduate students different methods to emphasize the importance of primary disease prevention, population health policy development and assurance processes that create better social, personal and economic environments."
