UAM Percussion Night To Feature Guest Artist Dr. Taylor Burks and Debut of University’s First Steel Pan Ensemble

UAM Percussion Night

The University of Arkansas at Monticello Division of Music will present UAM Percussion Night on Thursday, November 19, at 7 p.m. at the Fine Arts Center on UAM’s Monticello campus, featuring guest artist Dr. Taylor Burks of Itawamba Community College. The concert will showcase a variety of solo and chamber percussion works, a performance by the UAM Percussion Ensemble and the debut performance of the UAM Steel Pan Ensemble. The event is free and open to the public.

Dr. Taylor Burks, a percussionist and educator at Itawamba Community College, will perform both solo and chamber works as part of the evening’s program. His appearance will provide UAM students and community members with an opportunity to experience high-level percussion performance and explore the diverse possibilities of contemporary percussion music.

The concert also marks an exciting milestone for UAM with the debut of the UAM Steel Pan Ensemble. The ensemble introduces students to the steel pan tradition and expands the percussion program’s musical offerings through the study and performance of world percussion music.

In addition to the UAM Steel Pan Ensemble debut, the UAM Percussion Ensemble will present selections showcasing the musicianship and development of the university’s percussion students.

The UAM Steel Pan Ensemble and UAM Percussion Ensemble are under the direction of Dr. Kylan Bigby, assistant professor of percussion at UAM.
