The Higher Learning Commission (HLC) has reaffirmed the University of Arkansas at Monticello’s (UAM) accreditation through the 2034-35 academic year. The reaffirmation follows a comprehensive review and on-site visit in February by a five-member peer review team. The team’s positive recommendation was approved by the HLC’s Institutional Actions Council.

“This reaffirmation confirms the strength of our academic programs, the dedication of our faculty and staff and our commitment to student success,” Dr. Peggy Doss, chancellor of UAM, said. “It is a significant milestone for our university and the communities we serve.”

Preparation for the review involved the creation of a detailed Assurance Argument outlining how UAM meets or exceeds all HLC accreditation criteria and remains in full compliance with federal regulations. The process represented a multi-year institutional effort that engaged faculty, staff and administrators across all three UAM campuses.

Crystal Halley, vice chancellor for Academic Affairs at UAM, highlighted the collaboration involved, noting, “Faculty and staff from every campus played a vital role in this successful outcome. During the visit, HLC team members met with students, faculty, staff, trustees and members of the Board of Visitors. This reaffirmation is critical to UAM’s continued ability to serve our students and communities.”

Dan Boice, director of Library and accreditation liaison officer for UAM, expressed appreciation for the broad participation in both the document preparation and the site visit. “From reading our Assurance Argument, the HLC team had a strong sense of the centrality of our mission at UAM. What truly impressed them were the stories they heard directly from students, faculty, staff and community members. That deep dedication to our mission was prominently noted in their report.”

Looking ahead, Dr. Doss said UAM will continue to build on this success. “We presented ourselves to the team as we are: intensely dedicated to the success of our region and our students. This reaffirmation strengthens the foundation for our future.”

The HLC team’s full report is available on the UAM website. UAM has been continuously accredited by the Higher Learning Commission since 1940.
