Bio:

Dr. J. Richard Abbott, Assistant Professor of Biology, is a botanist and the current curator of the UAM Herbarium. 

“I teach General Botany, Regional Flora, Plants in Our World, and Medical Terminology. I have also taught Intro Biology and General Ecology here at UAM. My primary teaching interest is helping students learn how to learn, focusing on plants and words.” 

“My research interests include floristics, systematics, and taxonomy, especially with the milkwort family (Polygalaceae).” 

“My favorite part of the job is engaging students through applied, active, hands-on learning, outdoors with plants whenever possible.”
