Bio:
Dr. Shuneize Slater is an assistant professor of Chemistry here at UAM. She is also the Dean of the School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences.
“My favorite subjects to teach are Intro Chemistry, General Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry. These course allows students to develop higher level thinking skills that are critical in an ever-changing and data-driven society.”
“My research interests are in the area of medicinal chemistry. To be more specific, I am interested in synthesizing analogs of cannabinoids that are active against cancer cells, but do not produce the effects associated with cannabis.”
“The best thing about teaching is watching students develop into active thinkers, following them along their academic paths, and knowing that you are helping to create the future doctors, scientists, and pharmacists. My favorite part about being Dean is advocating on behalf of my students and the faculty to ensure we are providing the best education possible.”
