Monticello Mayor Celebrates Social Work Month, UAM To Host Annual Social Work Fair
On March 7, Monticello Mayor Jason Akers visited the University of Arkansas at Monticello to present a proclamation declaring the month of March in Monticello to be National Social Work Month in recognition of the numerous contributions made by social workers in America.
The UAM Department of Social Work will host its 4th Annual Social Work Fair in honor of the nationally recognized Social Work Month. The fair will be held on March 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the UAM Gibson University Center Green Room and is free and open to the public.
The inaugural event was created and organized in 2018 by Marie Jenkins, associate professor and director of Social Work at UAM. Due to restrictions during the pandemic, this will be the first time that the fair has been held since 2020.
Jenkins explained the history of the event, stating, “The Social Work Fair is an event to educate the public on real-world applications of social work and thank social workers in our community for their dedication to the profession and the services they provide.”
Agencies from many fields will be present at UAM’s fair to share information on their specific area of expertise as well as prospective job opportunities for graduates with a Bachelor of Social Work degree.
Jenkins noted, “It is also a wonderful opportunity for social workers to take a break from their busy day, engage in some self-care and receive a well-deserved ‘thank you’ while networking with colleagues from the surrounding area.”
The fair will include door prizes, light refreshments and a self-care station.
