Undefeated UAM Esports Team To Compete for Divisional Championship Title

2025 Esports Championship

The University of Arkansas at Monticello (UAM) Esports League of Legends team will take on Ferris State University in the National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE) Varsity Plus Divisional Championship on Tuesday, April 8, at 6 p.m.

As the top seed in the playoffs, the team earned a first-round bye and then defeated Talladega College in the semi-final round of the playoffs on April 1, securing UAM a spot in Tuesday's divisional championship match. The team remains undefeated throughout both the regular season and playoffs — a significant milestone as it marks the first time in program history that a UAM Esports team has achieved a perfect regular season record.

In addition, this is the second time in UAM Esports program history that a team has advanced to the divisional championship match. Last semester, UAM Esports Rocket League team also competed for the championship, successfully securing the university's first esports championship title only one year after the formation of the team at UAM.

UAM Esports League of Legends team members include Alexsavior Ayala, team captain and a sophomore biology and biochemistry double major from Warren, Arkansas; Jordan Berryman, a junior computer information systems major with a concentration in programming from Hamburg, Arkansas; Jaxon Davidson, a senior education studies major from Crossett, Arkansas; Marcia Lindsey, a freshman nursing major from Monticello, Arkansas; and Alexander Wargo, a sophomore mathematics major with a data science option from Warren, Arkansas.

Devin Burton, head coach of UAM Esports, praised the team’s dedication, stating, “This season has been a testament to the hard work and commitment of our players. Seeing them advance to the divisional championship after an undefeated regular season is incredibly rewarding. Their growth, especially under the leadership of team captain Alexsavior Ayala, has been remarkable. They’ve put in the time and practiced relentlessly, and now they’re ready for this moment. They’re going into the championship with confidence, knowing they’ve earned their place, and they are the team to beat.”

Notably, Lindsey is UAM Esports’ first female student-athlete. “Having our first female player on the team has been a great experience,” Burton said. “Her presence brings a unique dynamic to the group, and she fits right in with the team. It’s not about gender, but about the drive, commitment and desire to improve, and she has all of that. She’s grown so much this season, and her contributions have definitely helped the team be more grounded and focused. It’s important to show that our program is inclusive, and UAM Esports encourages all passionate players to try out for one of our teams.”
