Staff Excellence Awards
UAM presents two staff awards annually to recognize employees who demonstrate hard work and commitment to ensure excellence in support of UAM’s mission and success. The recipient of each award will receive a $1,500 taxable cash award and will be recognized at Professional Development Week in August.
Procedure:
- The Chancellor shall issue a “call for nominations” no later than the third Thursday in April and shall collect all nominations prior to the nomination deadline.
- The nomination deadline shall be the third Thursday in June.
- A selection committee will select the recipient of each award no later than the third Thursday in July and will forward the name to the Chancellor’s Office.
- The recipient of each award will be kept confidential until announced at Professional Development Week.
UAM Administrative Staff Excellence Award
Eligibility:
- Nominee must have at least one year of service as a non-faculty employee at UAM. Executive Council members are not eligible for the award.
- Nominee must not have received any formal disciplinary action or performance improvement plan within the twelve months prior to the nomination date.
- Nominee may not have received the award within the previous three years.
Criteria:
- Nominee goes above and beyond the call of duty in delivering an exceptional customer experience and serves internal and external customers with superior professionalism and care.
- Nominee goes above and beyond by eliminating barriers for customers by effectively and efficiently communicating, collaborating, and addressing customer needs.
- Nominee goes above and beyond by displaying a positive attitude, even under the most difficult circumstances, which impacts the internal/external customer experience.
- Nominee has repeatedly delivered exceptional service above and beyond the call of duty.
- Nominee serves as an exemplary role model in the management of a wide range of administrative responsibilities in the workplace, having a positive impact beyond the immediate work group/department.
- Nominee demonstrates creativity or resourcefulness in proactively identifying and eliminating barriers in processes, communication, or other operational functions.
- Nominee consistently seeks continuous improvement and collaborates effectively with others to implement process or service improvement initiatives to advance the mission of the university.
- Nominee develops and maintains positive relationships with students, faculty and staff members across campus and contributes to a culture of optimism and positivity within the organization.
- Nominee goes above and beyond in serving as a role model to students and coworkers through positive interactions with internal and/or external customers.
Nominations:
- Nominations for the award will be accepted from faculty, administration, staff, and students.
- Self-nominations and anonymous nominations are not permitted.

UAM Maintenance Staff Excellence Award
Eligibility:
- Nominee must have at least one year of service as an employee in the UAM physical plant (boiler operations, building and grounds maintenance, custodial services, motorpool, and warehouse).
- Nominee must not have received any formal disciplinary action or performance improvement plan within the twelve months prior to the nomination date.
- Nominee may not have received the award within the previous three years.
Criteria:
- Nominee embodies the traits of honesty, trustworthiness, and strength of character as they accomplish their work every day.
- Nominee demonstrates strong work ethic through their dedication, commitment to quality work, outstanding excellence in work, and reliability.
- Nominee goes above and beyond job expectations to promote the university and its’ mission.
- Nominee displays a positive attitude, even under the most difficult circumstances, which impacts the internal/external customer experience.
- Nominee demonstrates creativity or resourcefulness in proactively identifying and eliminating barriers in processes, communication, or other operational functions.
- Nominee develops and maintains positive relationships with students, faculty, and staff members across campus and contributes to a culture of optimism and positivity within the organization.
