UAM Students Win Statewide Academic Awards at FBLA Collegiate Conference
Eight University of Arkansas at Monticello students won academic awards at the Arkansas Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Collegiate State Leadership Conference that was held in Russellville, Arkansas, on March 29-30.
Wesley Groves, a biology major from McGehee, Arkansas, placed first in Sports Management.
Christine Hicks, a business administration major with an emphasis in finance from Crossett, Arkansas, placed first in Future Business Executive and placed third in Business Ethics.
Abby McBride, an accounting and business administration major with an emphasis in finance from McGehee, Arkansas, placed first in Foundations of Accounting and fourth in Computer Applications.
Julie Roberts, an accounting and business administration double major from Rison, Arkansas, placed second in Project Management.
Cindy Carrillo, an education studies major from El Dorado, Arkansas, placed third in Foundations of Entrepreneurship.
Luis Garcia, a music education major from Mount Pleasant, Texas, placed third in Foundations of Technology.
Addison King, an Associate of Arts major from Rison, Arkansas, placed third in Leadership.
Hope Wells, a business administration major from Rison, Arkansas, placed third in Sports Management.
Dr. Shanna Knowles, assistant professor of management and faculty sponsor of the FBLA Collegiate Club at UAM, stated, “The UAM FBLA Collegiate academic competition team exemplifies dedication to excellence, as evidenced by our consistent success. For four consecutive years, our club has produced numerous winners. As members of FBLA, students not only gain invaluable experience and skills but also foster personal growth and build connections that pave the way for success in their future career paths.”
Dr. Marsha Clayton, dean of the UAM School of Business, congratulated the students for their success, stating, “Our FBLA students do an excellent job representing UAM at collegiate competitions. We appreciate their hard work, dedication and commitment while preparing for this statewide event. Participation in FBLA and student organizations gives students the opportunity to have experiences that enhance their academic education and prepare them for success in the workplace.”
At the state leadership conference, students compete in events testing their business knowledge and skills. Top state winners are eligible to compete for national awards at the 2024 Future Business Leaders of America Collegiate National Leadership Conference held in Orlando, Florida, from June 24 through June 27, 2024.
