ARDOT Awards UAM-CTM $175,000 for CDL Fleet Upgrade Program

UAM-CTM-CDL-Fleet-UpgradeThis spring, the UAM College of Technology-McGehee (UAM-CTM) is in the process of improving its CDL program thanks to a grant from the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT).

In November 2023, ARDOT awarded UAM-CTM a grant for $175,000 from the FY2024 Transportation-Related Research and Workforce Development Grant Program funds. The funds will support a CDL fleet upgrade at UAM-CTM, with $135,000 allocated to equipment and $40,000 allocated to tuition.

The CDL fleet upgrade includes repairs to existing trucks and the acquisition of one additional truck.

The $40,000 allocated to tuition will support scholarships for twenty CDL students.

“Enhancing the number of safe CDL drivers on the road will lead to improved delivery systems and allow for well-paying careers for people, leading to a better standard of living and increased participation in the job force. In short, this benefits the entire region as well as the state,” Bob Ware, vice chancellor of UAM-CTM, said.

Dr. Peggy Doss, chancellor of UAM, stated, “I would like to express my sincere appreciation toward the Arkansas Department of Transportation for their invaluable support in strengthening the CDL program at the UAM College of Technology-McGehee. The grant will significantly enhance the quality of hands-on training offered in the CDL program.”
