Laurel Brown's "Ballade"

Laurel Brown’s senior art thesis exhibition, “Moving Musical Motifs,” will be on display from April 7 through April 11 in the Glassblock Gallery in the Fred J. Taylor Library and Technology Center at the University of Arkansas at Monticello. A public reception will be held on Wednesday, April 9, from 5 to 6 p.m.

Brown’s exhibition explores stylized portrait drawings of fellow music students at UAM, drawing inspiration from Art Nouveau’s distinctive style and line work.

Additionally, after the reception on April 9, Brown will perform a flute recital at 7 p.m. in the Harris Recital Hall in the Music Building at UAM, featuring music that influenced the creation of the art pieces.

The goal of my art is to connect art and music by allowing music to inform the flow of my lines,” Brown said.

The Glassblock Gallery’s hours are Mondays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Tuesdays from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 3 to 4:30 p.m., Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
