Richard Wins First Prize at Art Exhibition
On July 9, Tom Richard was awarded first prize at the South Arkansas Art Center’s (SAAC) Annual Juried Art Competition Exhibit. His winning entry was “Bubble Gum on Art Triptych: Chew/Blow/Pop (Titian/Bernini/Bruegel).” The medium was acrylic and ink on paper.
According to a press release by SAAC, “The Juried Art Competition is SAAC's annual competition juried by nationally recognized art professionals and is open to all artists across the nation ages 18 and older who work in two-dimensional and three-dimensional fine arts media.”
This year, juror Taylor Jasper selected Richard, professor of art at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, and fifty-three artists from across the United States, including 21 Arkansans, to participate in the exhibit.
Dr. Steven Harper, dean of the UAM School of Arts and Humanities, offered congratulations to Richard, stating, “As an artist, Mr. Tom Richard is incredibly versatile and imaginative. I'd seen many of his works before, and these pieces were totally unique and fresh. The diversity of his interests and abilities is part of what makes him such a great teacher, and UAM is lucky to have him.”
The exhibit remained on display in the Price and Merkle Galleries in El Dorado, Arkansas, through July 29.
