UAM Holds Fall Commencement Exercises
The University of Arkansas at Monticello held its fall commencement exercises on Friday, December 8, in the Steelman Field House. Dr. Peggy Doss, chancellor of UAM, recognized graduates completing academic credentials ranging from master's degrees to technical certificates during the ceremony.
Jeremy Woodall, campus minister for the Baptist Collegiate Ministry, provided the invocation, and Scott Bearden, associate professor of music, sang the national anthem and alma mater.
Dr. Michael Moore spoke during the ceremony, providing greetings on behalf of the University of Arkansas System, where he serves as vice president for Academic Affairs. Dr. Moore congratulated graduates on their accomplishment and offered advice, stating, “Live your life with an element of kindness and gratitude. Find the opportunity today, before you leave here, to thank someone who helped you on this journey.”
Dr. Doss congratulated the graduates and their families and friends, as well, stating, “Graduates, today is a day of new beginnings for each of you, and we are filled with immense pride and excitement for your accomplishments.”
“As you step into the next chapter of your life, remember that the pursuit of knowledge is a lifelong endeavor…. Your potential is limitless, and the impact you can make is boundless. This world needs you, and we need you to be agents of positive change and brokers of peace. The world is awaiting the unique contributions that each of you is poised to offer. Never underestimate the power of your ideas, your compassion and your ability to effect change that makes your community, state and the world a better place for all,” Dr. Doss told graduates. She also made special acknowledgments of graduates who were first-generation students, parents, active in campus organizations or members of the armed forces.
